Statement: Jan Estep is an artist, writer, and associate professor of art at the University of Minnesota. Estep studied biology as an undergraduate, and has a PhD in Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis (1993) and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1997). She is a conceptual artist working in video, sculpture, drawing, photography, and text-based forms. Estep’s critical writing has appeared in various international catalogues and in the art journals Afterall, Frieze, Bridge, New Art Examiner, Bomb, InterReview, Modern Painters, and Rain Taxi. Prior to moving to Minneapolis she was senior editor of New Art Examiner.
